Dr. Joey Cadena, DPT, FAAOMPT, SGX

Dr. Joey Cadena is the Owner, CEO, and Lead Therapist at PhysioSports Institute. In 1996, he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Fine Arts from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He earned a Master's of Science in Physical Therapy in 2008 from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. In 2012, he completed his fellowship training in Austin through the Manual Therapy Institute, a fellowship program of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Dr. Joey went on to complete his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in 2014.

Experience & Entrepreneurship

Dr. Joey has been a Personal Fitness Trainer and Martial Arts Instructor since 1993. He has owned and operated a number of martial arts schools in South Texas along with a training facility, Rock Solid Total Fitness, in Falfurrias, Texas. In 2013, Dr. Joey opened PhysioSports Therapy located in McAllen, Texas. Over the past 5 years, he has successfully treated patients in the RGV ranging from geriatric to semi-professional sports athletes. In January of 2018, Dr. Joey announced the expansion of PhysioSports by incorporating a 2,250 sq. ft. training facility as part of his physical therapy clinic. The Center for Human Performance is slated to open June of 2018.


Awards & Recognition
In 2015, 2016, and 2017, Dr. Joey was awarded the McAllen Monitor's Reader’s Choice Award for Favorite Physical Therapist. In 2016, Spartan Race selected him as a Spartan Race Ambassador because of his dedication and contribution to the sport. In addition, Dr. Joey holds a 7th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and has over 26 years of experience in the martial arts.


Dr. Joey is always willing to give back to the community. He often lectures at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley on biomechanics, injury prevention, and exercise science, and provides opportunities for students to complete their internships at his clinic. Dr. Joey has also served as a guest speaker at several commencement ceremonies and sports banquets. In 2017 and 2018, Dr. Joey and his wife, Dr. Sandra, teamed up with Emily's Meals to provide meals to the homeless community in the RGV. They both value education, and have awarded a number of scholarships to students pursuing degrees in the medical field.

Isaac J. Vela, PSI Office Manager

Isaac Julian Vela is the Office Manager, Physical Therapy (PT) Technician, and Personal Fitness Trainer at PhysioSports Institute in McAllen, TX. In December of 2016, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX and graduated with a Major in Psychology and Minor in Rehabilitative Services. For over ten years, physical education and the daily implementation of physical fitness and health have been a major part of his personal life. Before joining PhysioSports, Isaac was a strength and conditioning trainer, and a boxing and kickboxing instructor for Title Boxing Club in McAllen and Mission, Texas. As a Personal Fitness Trainer, he enjoys versatility and incorporates different forms of vigorous exercise regimes with his clients, including his boxing and kickboxing knowledge along with Spartan and other forms of strength and endurance training. Outside of PhysioSports, Isaac continues his Spartan and boxing conditioning, serves as a Eucharistic Minister in his church, and is currently preparing to further his academic achievement by applying for graduate school and earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree (DPT). Liliana Partida, Lead PT Technician

Liliana Partida is a Physical Therapy (PT) Technician at PhysioSports Therapy Institute in McAllen, TX. In May of 2018, she will earn her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Major in Kinesiology and a Minor in English. Physical education has been her passion ever since she was introduced to it. Lily is an all-around athlete and has participated in soccer, cross country, and track. She has general knowledge in basketball, volleyball, and dance and has provided assistance in training summer track for kids in Palmview by introducing technique and fundamental drills. Lily specializes in high intensity training circuits, agility work, and power and strength training. Her own training continues to revolve around 5Ks, speed work, Spartan training, and weightlifting. Outside of PhysioSports, she enjoys participating in UTRGV Pre-Physical Therapy Club and Health and Kinesiology Club Volunteer Events such as Soccer Olympics and Bocce Tournament for the special needs population. She plans to continue her education in the near future in graduate school by earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree.
